JAWAAN (2023) : review

And finally the much hyped, much awaited Jawaan saw light of the day ! Big stars, big budget( humongous budget actually), big music composer, everything super large. But does it meet the expectations of the average viewer? No it goes not. Read on.  A decorated jawan locks horns with a criminal called Kaali, this is in 1986 ( the year movies like Aakhri Raasta released, just for reference). Kaali gets him eliminated and send the pregnant wife to jail. The baby born in jail grows up to become the hero (look alike of the father) and decides to avenge the misdeeds done to his innocent patriotic parents. Well, isn’t it a masaaledaar full on Bollywood- Tollywood drama subject ?  And then the director Atlee also borrows ideas and references from various retro movies, some idea from Sholay (1975) as the hero assembled a gang of jailed Qaidis in order to form a team to nab the villain, then there’s an entire episode borrowed from Dhartiputra (1993), and the basic theme is copy pasted from Kaml

Hunterr hunting all the way

Hunterrr (2015): There was a song in Gangs of Wasseypur called ~I am a hunter she wants to see my gun~...In this movie the Hunterrr has no control over his gun that hunts for a proverbial victim.  The movie is a sex comedy that chronicles the life of a sex addict Mandar Ponkshe (Gulshan Devaiah) who is obsessed with sex and women. His numerous escapades result in hilarious situations. His relationships with three women at various stages of his life is what forms the crux of the plot.  Director Harshvardhan Kulkarni deals with the subject in a mature manner and is quite bold in his attempt. The dialogues are hilarious and though some hit below the belt it is justified.  Gulshan Devaiah is superb in his portrayal of the complex lead character, he plays his part well and looks convincing in every frame right from the confused 20 year old college boy till the mature 40 year old in the later part. "I"Me Myself ..... Veteran southern film maker Shankar is known for his grand over the top movie making. .as seen in his previous work like Indian ,Mudhalvan and Jeans. His last directorial venture was an official remake of the blockbuster bollywood movie 3 Idiots named Namban. With I the director presents a lavish and beautiful looking movie with the lead actor turning into an ugly and not so easy on the eyes monster. Though not exactly an monster you tend to sympathise with the lead actor. The story revolves around a simple small town body builder Lingesan (Vikram) who is a crazy fan of a super model Dia (Amy Jackson).  A chance encounter with his screen idol changes his life literally. Dia grooms him into a much sought after Top model. Lingesan's sudden rags to riches rise invites several enemies including a rival body builder , a jealous competitor male model , a business tycoon, a gay make up artist and a hidden enemy revealed at the anti climax.
