Filmfare does it again ! Yet again they prove how unfair and biased they are. At times they claim they are awarding only those who are popular among the viewers as it’s supposed to be a popular film award and then they also claim they award the worthy irrespective of the fate of the film at the box office. Phew! Such hypocrisy. After their last awards in 2019 which was a clean sweep for the very undeserving Gully Boy where even Alia Bhatt got awarded for a guest appearance, they are back with their pan masala chhap tradition to award the unworthy again.
Considering the horrible pandemic and the unexpected lockdown due to which movies were theatrically released only till March 2020 and thereafter only on ott the Filmfare committee could’ve well clubbed 2020 with 2021, but then paisa bolta hai and Vimal pan masala paisa daalta hai so the grand glittering awards ceremony has to take place.
There are the deserving winners, like the late Irrfan winning best actor that’s so deserving. A terrible film but an outstanding performance, an act that will get a lump to your throat. The underrated Tilitamma winning for Sir in the critics award category is another deserving winner. Why she didn’t get the best actress award? Hmmm maybe Filmfare doesn’t consider her popular, so basically popularity with the award committee wins.
Tapsee Pannu there’s no doubt she’s a brilliant actress and she’s proved it but was she deserving enough to win for Thappad? The movie was great but she wasn’t. It was her most tried and tested acting strategy, typically Pannu, the same acting style she used in Pink, Badla, Mulk all the movies. It wasn’t the character ‘Amrita’ it was Pannu you saw on screen. Nothing great, nothing worthy of an award. Wasn’t Tilitamma far far superior in her supremely terrific portrayal of the maid ? Or even Vidya Balan as Shakuntala Devi. Now now, if the jury could nominate a wooden plank like Janhavi in the best actress category then Pannu certainly deserves the trophy, she’s million times better.
Then the lifetime achievement award is given to late Irrfan. Not that he doesn’t deserve it but why wasn’t it thought about during his lifetime considering he had been working for three decades. What’s the point in honouring the departed ? They did the same to poor Sridevi who was honoured with the lifetime achievement trophy after she passed away. Will the Filmfare pan masalawalas please consider honouring the living legends? What about Prem Chopra, Asrani, Danny Dengzongpa, Rajesh Roshan, Yesudas, Bindu, Zeenat Aman, Suman Kalyanpur, Reena Roy, Rakhee Gulzar, Saira Banu, and so many others? Why wait for legends to die and than honour them? Finally, is it a Filmfare pan masala mandate to award Amitabh Bachchan in every ceremony? He’s the greatest superstar, maha Nayak, biggest megastar of the millennium no doubt about that but was he really good making those awkward faces in the boring documentary kind film Gulabo Sitabo? There was once a tradition at Filmfare to give an award to Shahrukh Khan and Kajol for even their most distasteful performances, check the award winners of 90s and 2000s you’ll find several unnecessary trophies bestowed on them.
Keep up the biased, unfair, chamchagiri tradition Filmfare pan masala awards committee!! Next in the wings would be best actor to Abhishek Bachchan, best actress Janhavi and lifetime achievement to any unfortunate legend who passes away peacefully. Sigh.
